After our long weekend in Chapel Hill with the Brookshires in May, Amanda, Brittany, and I rented a soccer mom van (ironically, as soon as we left the babies) and headed to the NC coast for a few days of working remotely with a view.
Said view
Everyone set up their stations, and we awkwardly rotated as people had meetings (Amanda even had to go to virtual court one day). I stationed myself on the balcony whenever possible (and not too hot or glaring), making all my teammates extremely jealous as I flashed them the view beyond my screen.
The Veggie Wagon, a local market just steps from our Airbnb, was our saving grace while in Carolina Beach since many of the restaurants left a lot to be desired. Night one I made this feta and veggie bake and we settled into our view.

We made sure to fit in a bit of beach time each day, sometimes in between meetings. You could rent lounge chairs on the beach, which we did one day, and the other days we just snagged chairs from other people who had already left for the day. We spent lots of time watching the little birds chase the waves, bobbing in the water, and just reading in the sunshine.
Our first full day there was Amanda's birthday and she really maximized it, despite having to work.
Looking ahead to a great new year!
The night of her birthday we went out for drinks at COAST, a "craft cocktails - modern calabash" spot. We were giddy to be out and about, sun-kissed, and celebrating Amanda together. And better yet, our tab was picked up by a mystery man at the bar, a regular, who had told the bartender that we reminded him of his daughter. He left long before we found out his good deed. It was an extra special birthday treat!

The days passed far too quickly, taking remote calls, sipping rose, strolling. One morning we walked to get breakfast burritos but weren't smart enough to eat them at home. So the birds started circling and I panicked and ended up running down the beach like a crazy woman, yelling and holding out my burrito as a seagull marked me and the fishermen laughed. Sure, you're laughing now picturing it, but what if I had actually been attacked by a seagull? No, you're right, that would be pretty funny too.
Swinging our way out of town!
